Work 7: The Concertos from Corelli’s Sonatas Op. 3 (1735)
Geminiani’s most famous concerto arrangements after works by Arcangelo Corelli are those after the violin sonatas Opus 5. But there also exist six concertos by Geminiani based on trio sonatas by Corelli, five from the latter’s Opus 3, one from his Opus 1. As arrangements they are kept as simple as possible: the original parts are retained without changes as concertino parts in the arrangements, so that the arranger only had to decide where to create duplicate tutti parts and where to add a viola part. Nevertheless the works were not unsuccessfull on the market, as the reissues tell us.
